Frequently Asked Questions

  • Physical therapy is a healthcare specialty focused on improving and restoring mobility, function, and quality of life through physical interventions and exercises. It is often prescribed as a conservative treatment option to help individuals recover from injuries, manage chronic conditions, prevent disability, and optimize physical performance. Physical therapy is a collaborative process involving the patient, physical therapist, and often other healthcare providers to achieve optimal outcomes. The goal is to improve overall quality of life and independence by addressing physical impairments, promoting recovery, and maximizing functional abilities.

  • Determining if physical therapy (PT) is appropriate for you involves several considerations, and typically, a healthcare provider makes this determination based on the patient's medical history, symptoms, and specific condition. Contact us today to speak with one of our trusted doctors to see if physical therapy is the right fit for you.

  • In the state of TN you do not need a referral to be seen by one of our physical therapist, with the exception of medicare. If you are on Medicare a physician referral is recommended for our services. Our physical therapists can discuss evaluation findings with your physician to obtain this referral.

  • At Cousin Physical Therapy we are on the forefront of healthcare and do not accept traditional insurance models thus being out-of-network. Services are paid for in a cash-based format due at time of service. In turn this allows our doctors to perform treatments targeted for total body recovery without lucrative billing from insurance companies.

  • Traditional insurance models dictate what physical therapists can treat, double book you with another patient, and can become lucrative in their billing. An example of dictating treatment is if you are being treated for shoulder pain and you come to an appointment with low back pain, we would only be able to treat your shoulder and not the back. If we treated your back services would not be covered and you would receive a bill at home. In our cash-based model, we have one set price for all of our physical therapy services; no copay, no meeting your high deductible, no coinsurance, and no unexpected bills. This allows for better access to treatment, high-quality treatments, personalized and individualized care, and better long-term health outcomes.

  • We accept cash, check, all major credit cards, and HSA/FSA as payment due at time of service.

  • Each session is one hour in duration. Your initial session will entail a comprehensive evaluation to detect your impairments and provide initial treatment recommendations that allow you to ease your pain and discomfort. Follow-up treatment sessions take a deeper dive into specific interventions to create physiological change to decrease your symptoms permanently. We provide education on your specific diagnosis throughout each session while empowering you to be the driver of your recovery.

  • Please wear comfortable clothes that you can perform various total-body movements in. Typical attire is what you would wear walking, running, or going to exercise in.
